In the Batken region, an attempt to smuggle women's shawls worth 759,000 soms has been thwarted.

The press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Batken region reports the detention of a man who attempted to illegally import goods from a neighboring country.

According to the department's information, a 30-year-old resident of Osh, known as M. K., crossed the border through a checkpoint in the Batken district, where he purchased 1710 women's scarves.

“M. K. planned to bring this merchandise into Kyrgyzstan without declaring it to the customs authorities. To carry out his intentions, he contacted a 51-year-old S. K. from the Batken district, who instructed a 58-year-old K. K. to transport the goods in a 'Honda Stepwgn' for a reward of 3000 soms. K. K. was supposed to transport the cargo via a bypass road. However, at that moment, they were detained by law enforcement officers,” the statement said.

According to the conclusion of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Batken region, the market value of the detained scarves amounts to 759,450 soms.

In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, concerning "Economic Smuggling." All three detainees have been placed in a temporary detention facility.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
