The Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Edil Baisalov, held talks with representatives of the World Bank, including Hugh Riddell, the head of the organization's office in the country, and Mohini Kakkar, a senior health specialist and head of the group implementing the primary healthcare quality improvement program. This information was announced by the press service of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

During the meeting, the interim results of the primary healthcare quality improvement program were discussed, as well as plans for its expansion, increased efficiency, and sustainability. Special attention was given to issues of capacity building, engaging the private sector, and enhancing measures for child health protection, including the possibility of regulating the circulation of sugary drinks.

Edil Baisalov noted that strengthening the healthcare system is one of the key priorities for the country's development:

“Kyrgyzstan is entering a new phase of accelerated socio-economic progress. The National Development Program until 2030, approved by President Sadyr Japarov, pays special attention to human capital development. We expect more than a fivefold increase in healthcare funding in the coming years. Next year, salaries for healthcare workers will be significantly increased, and unprecedented state investments in the construction of modern medical infrastructure are planned both in Bishkek and in the regions.”
The President has appointed a new Minister of Health who will be responsible for radical changes and improving efficiency in the healthcare system. We hope to continue our successful partnership with the World Bank and other international organizations to further strengthen collaboration and improve the quality of medical services.”

Representatives of the World Bank confirmed their readiness to provide expert and financial support for reforms aimed at developing primary healthcare, strengthening human resources, and enhancing the resilience of the healthcare system as a whole.
