On the northern outskirts of the village of Kök-Kashat in the Talas region lies a mysterious cave.

The local elder Nurchan Shekerbekov shared with a Turmush correspondent a story related to this place.

According to him, the cave appeared in the 1950s when silver was rumored to be discovered in the area.

“At that time, we were children, about 12-13 years old. We heard that Russian researchers were working in our area. Then information came out that silver extraction had been suspended because it was not yet ready. One day, out of curiosity, my friends and I decided to enter the cave. After walking about 50 meters, we began to feel a lack of air, and our oil torches started to go out. In the end, we had to turn back, as there was complete darkness ahead,” Nurchan recounted.

He also noted that the cave is located in an area known as “Tört chiyim.”

“The name of this place is not accidental. When you look at the slope of the mountain from the village, you can see four distinct lines. The reason why this cave was dug remains a mystery,” the elder added.
