Signs of alcohol poisoning and poisoning from surrogates may include:
- difficulty breathing;
- dizziness;
- skin redness;
- headaches;
- vomiting.
In more severe cases, there may be epileptic seizures, uncontrolled urination and defecation, as well as disturbances in consciousness, up to coma, which can lead to death.
What should be done?
- Do not leave the victim alone.
- Try to keep the person conscious, preferably in a sitting position.
- Do not induce vomiting artificially. The vomiting reflex may not work properly, increasing the risk of choking.
- If possible, offer them water, but avoid coffee.
- Keep them warm. Do not place the person under a cold shower, as alcohol lowers body temperature, which can lead to hypothermia.
- If breathing has stopped, immediately begin artificial respiration and apply basic resuscitation measures until emergency medical help arrives or until breathing and circulation are restored.
How to prevent alcohol poisoning?
- Avoid consuming alcohol if you have gastrointestinal diseases, cardiovascular issues, or mental disorders;
- Do not drink alcohol in combination with medications (such as antidepressants, sleeping pills, pain relievers, etc.);
- Do not consume alcohol on an empty stomach and do not chase it with carbonated drinks;
- Always have a snack after consuming alcohol; lemon is an excellent option, as vitamin C helps speed up alcohol metabolism;
- Do not mix or alternate different types of alcohol;
- Avoid counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited for: children under 16 years old, pregnant women, and drivers.
