Kunduz Yesengulova, a doctor from the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance Center in Bishkek, shared recommendations for safe food preparation, storage, and consumption during the holidays on "Birinchi Radio." She emphasized that after cooking, dishes should not remain at room temperature for more than three hours, after which they should be placed in the refrigerator. Consuming reheated food that has been left out for too long can lead to food poisoning.

Yesengulova also noted the importance of planning the quantity of prepared dishes to avoid leftovers, which can be stored for up to five days. She urged preparing a variety of vitamin-rich dishes and keeping portions small.

The doctor highlighted the need to follow hygiene standards during cooking: hands, kitchen utensils, and cutting boards should be washed regularly. Separate cutting boards should be used for different products, such as meat, fish, and vegetables. It is also important to pay attention to the expiration dates of products when purchasing them.

In 2025, Bishkek recorded 177 cases of food poisoning, according to Yesengulova.

Symptoms of food poisoning include abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite, and headaches. In the event of poisoning, it is essential to provide the body with enough fluids to eliminate toxins and to consult a doctor.
