The Minister of Health Kanybek Dosmambetov stated at a board meeting that medical tourism has reached significant proportions and represents a negative phenomenon.

He noted that many citizens are forced to seek treatment abroad due to the low quality of medical services in the country. However, such treatment does not always lead to positive outcomes — often patients return home without the necessary assistance.

According to the minister, significant financial and time expenditures are not always justified, as in some cases people are left without medical care both abroad and in Kyrgyzstan. He has repeatedly been approached by citizens who sold their property, took out loans, and spent months abroad in hopes of treatment, only to return in a serious condition.

“People come back, and often the time has already been lost. There are cases where patients, upon returning, actually die,” the minister emphasized.

He also added that medical tourism is not limited to Turkey; many citizens go for treatment to neighboring countries such as Uzbekistan.

The minister stressed that one of the main tasks of the department is to improve the healthcare system within the country so that citizens can receive quality medical assistance without the need to go abroad.
