At its meeting on February 24, the Committee on Labor, Health, Women's Affairs, and Social Issues discussed and supported in the second reading a draft law concerning amendments to the law "On Medical Insurance for Citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic."

Committee Chair Gulsunkan Junushalieva (District No. 29) noted that the initiative aims to implement mandatory health insurance for citizens through medical institutions operating under contracts with the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund at the Ministry of Health. In addition, free and subsidized medical services are provided for certain groups of the population.

In particular, the proposed amendments relate to providing benefits for children under 18 years old, as well as for students of vocational schools, secondary, and higher educational institutions up to 21 years old, with funding from the republican budget.

In addition to this, the committee approved a draft law on a grant agreement, under which Japan allocates a grant of 1 billion 801 million yen or $11 million 600 thousand to Kyrgyzstan. The funds will be directed towards modernizing medical equipment in referral hospitals in the southern regions of the country. As part of this project, it is planned to equip the Osh Interregional United Clinical Hospital and the Osh Oncology Center with modern equipment.
