The mayor of a Philippine city was attempted to be killed with a grenade launcher.

According to the publication Inquirer, the incident occurred on Sunday. A group of four attackers ambushed a convoy using a vehicle. One of them, reportedly the leader, fired at the official with an object resembling a grenade launcher.

The police have already identified all four suspects. As a result of return fire from the security detail, three attackers, including the shooter named Raprap, were eliminated.

One of the attackers managed to escape, but during the pursuit, three civilians were killed, and two security guards were injured.

This attack marks the fourth assassination attempt on Mayor Akhmad Ampatuan. The police are currently considering the possibility of a contract killing, and the investigation is ongoing.
