A recent investigation conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) revealed that the famous singer Elvis Presley, along with some other deceased individuals, was listed among the sponsors of migrants who arrived in the United States for humanitarian reasons. This was reported by The Washington Times.
According to GAO data, several applications for migrant sponsorship included a Social Security number belonging to Presley. As of July 2024, more than 1,400 foreign nationals had been granted entry into the U.S. on humanitarian grounds, despite the fact that the sponsors listed in their documents had already passed away. It was also found that some applications used false biographical information, and photographs of third parties were attached, including actresses Connie Chung and Cote de Pablo.
Additionally, among the migrant sponsors, individuals with ties to criminal organizations were identified. U.S. authorities determined that 20% of migrant sponsors from Venezuela pose a threat to public and national security, with some involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

GAO also noted that the humanitarian visa program was implemented ineffectively, and the vetting of both applicants and their sponsors was not conducted thoroughly enough. The program was initially intended to assist people facing acute humanitarian needs or those who could bring significant benefits to American society. However, as the audit results showed, no responsible government agencies ensured proper oversight of this initiative's implementation.
