Kutman Bekeiev, a native of the village of Orto-Örüktü in the Issyk-Kul region, was born in 1999 and has been actively engaged in potato farming in recent years. A correspondent from Turmush spoke with him.

In addition to potatoes, Kutman also practices gardening. This year, he completed his studies at the Issyk-Kul State University named after Kasym Tynystanov, earning a degree in "Ecology." He has been involved in agricultural activities for five years. "I was inspired by more experienced farmers from our village. We strictly adhere to a schedule for soil cultivation, use the necessary mineral fertilizers and manure. An important aspect is crop rotation: if potatoes are planted in the same place for more than two years, the soil becomes depleted. Therefore, we alternate crops; for example, after potatoes, we prefer barley, wheat, or alfalfa to allow the soil to recover. Every year, we cultivate 3-4 hectares, and with proper care, we get a good harvest. I choose the early-maturing potato variety 'Aktris,' which ripens quickly and has excellent marketable appearance. This allows us to sell potatoes directly from the field during the summer," Kutman shares.
In this season, the price for potatoes from the field was 25 soms per kilogram, which is higher than last year. "Our farm specializes in seed production, so we have plenty of clients. We send seeds all over Kyrgyzstan, even to Batken. I also engage in animal husbandry. The main income of our family comes from working the land. In the future, I plan to expand my farm and implement new irrigation methods. I want to show the youth that it is possible to live decently in the village if you invest your soul and efforts into your work," he adds.
