In the Osh region, checks have begun to identify illegal possession of weapons.

Turmush — This was reported by the press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Osh region.

The checks were initiated in response to recent incidents that occurred in the country, including a case involving a gun threat in Bishkek and a tragedy where a police officer shot his wife.

These activities started on January 8 and will last until January 31.

During the checks, illegally stored weapons are being confiscated, including those that lack documentation, as well as those that have expired. Attention is also given to individuals suspected of committing crimes or acts of violence, as well as situations where weapon owners are elsewhere while third parties are using the weapons. Explanatory conversations are held with such citizens, after which the weapons are confiscated; some voluntarily surrender them to the police.

“These activities are aimed at ensuring the safety of citizens and their families. If you have unregistered weapons or ammunition, we ask you to report this to the police immediately. Stay vigilant,” the department emphasizes.

Additionally, the police noted that citizens who voluntarily surrender illegally stored weapons will not be held criminally liable.
