The Ministry of Culture promises to provide an official assessment of the statements that have caused public resonance
At a meeting of the committee on science, education, and culture, deputy Gulsharkan Kultaeva urged the Ministry of Culture to give a legal assessment of the statements made by Syimyk Japikeev regarding the writer Chyngyz Aitmatov.
Kultaeva noted that Japikeev gave an interview on a popular channel that has about two hundred thousand subscribers, and in this interview expressed his opinion about Aitmatov. The deputy emphasized that Aitmatov is an important cultural symbol of Kyrgyzstan, and his words can be heard not only in the country but also beyond its borders.
“The Ministry of Culture is obliged to protect our cultural heritage. Such statements cannot be ignored; a legal and judicial assessment is necessary,” she stated.
In response, Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev noted that Aitmatov does not need protection. He also added that the ministry is preparing an official statement regarding this incident.
Kultaeva emphasizes that the ministry's response should be formalized in the proper legal manner.
