Prose writer, translator Mikhail Aksakov


Prose writer and translator M. Aksakov was born in Voronezh in a family of an agronomist-forester.
In 1932, he graduated from the Central Asian Polytechnic Institute for Irrigation Engineers in Tashkent. From 1939 to 1941, he studied at the correspondence department of the Geography Faculty of Leningrad State University. In 1932, he was assigned as a hydraulic engineer to the village of Karavan in the Jalal-Abad region, and from 1934 to 1942, he worked in the Hydrometeorological Service in Frunze. In 1942, he was elected secretary of the district committee of the Komsomol of the Proletarsky district of Frunze, and in August of the same year, he became the secretary of the Issyk-Kul regional committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan (Przhevalsk). In 1943, he served as an instructor at the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Kyrgyzstan, and in 1945, he became head of the organizational department of the Frunze regional committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Kyrgyzstan. From 1948 to 1951, he held managerial positions in various sectoral enterprises of the republic.
In 1948, he worked for some time as head of the department at the editorial office of the newspaper "Soviet Kyrgyzstan," from 1951 to 1953, he was the responsible secretary of the almanac "Kyrgyzstan," from 1953 to 1955, he served as a special correspondent for "Literaturnaya Gazeta" in Kyrgyzstan, and from 1955, he was the chief editor of the magazine "Literary Kyrgyzstan." Since 1948, M. Aksakov has been writing short stories, essays, and feuilletons. In 1953, his collection of stories "Brothers" was published. He is the author of several dramatic works for theater and television. Based on his scripts, the first Kyrgyz feature films "My Mistake" (1958) and "The Girl from Tien Shan" (1960) were produced at the "Kyrgyzfilm" studio, and he also wrote scripts for chronicle-documentary films. He translated works by A. Tokombaev, K. Bayalinov, N. Baitemirov, K. Eshmambetov, S. Sasytkbaev, S. Jetimishov, and others into Russian.
A member of the CPSU since 1952, a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1953, and a member of the Union of Cinematographers of the USSR since 1958.
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner, medals "For Valorous Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," "For Labor Distinction," "For Valorous Labor. In Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V. I. Lenin," a Certificate of Honor from the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR, and Certificates of Honor from the Central Committee of the Komsomol and the Central Committee of the Komsomol of Kyrgyzstan.
He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR of the second convocation and a member of the bureau of the Frunze regional committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Kyrgyzstan (1946).
