Gypsum reserves are accounted for in six deposits, and extraction is carried out by small enterprises.
The deposits of rock salt (Kochkorskoe, Tunuk-Tuz, Ketemen-Tube) have significant potential as recreational resources (salt therapy) and for the production of table salt.
There are possibilities for expanding cement production and developing facing stone (gray granodiorites, reddish limestone-shelly stone, gray marble).
Among the valuable mineral resources is wollastonite, with unlimited reserves in Kyrgyzstan. The richest deposit is Kara-Korum in the Chatkal district. A thoroughly explored deposit of blue asbestos, Kyrkol, is ready for development.
In the near and medium-term perspective, the sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan will depend on the effective use of all natural resource potential, including both mineral and biological resources. Unfortunately, in terms of raw material resources, Kyrgyzstan cannot offer anything that other countries do not offer in a more accessible form. However, if the roads and transport infrastructure are brought to at least an acceptable condition, some of the reserves could become promising.
