According to the forecasts of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the capital is set to face a growing labor shortage, which currently amounts to between 400,000 and 500,000 people.

In his speech at the Moscow City Duma, he stated: "The shortage of labor resources in Moscow currently ranges from 400,000 to 500,000, and in the future, this number will only increase. Populism in the field of migration is unacceptable," as reported by "Interfax".

Sobyanin added that "ideally, it would be best to do without migrants," however, the current economic and demographic situation requires different solutions. He noted that even with a softening of the economic situation, the labor shortage remains stable and is likely to grow in the coming years.

In his opinion, "it is necessary to effectively manage migration policy, which, despite its shortcomings, brings significant benefits, accounting for about 5-6% of the city's gross regional product."

The mayor emphasized that "if we remove migrants from the city, it will lead to a sharp rise in inflation and an outflow of specialists from key sectors such as industry and the military-industrial complex."

He also added: "The situation is serious, and we should not take this issue lightly."

Sobyanin warned that "our opponents are trying to use interethnic and interreligious relations for their own interests, creating conflicts and problems." He noted that decisive measures need to be taken to organize migration processes and maintain order.
