Kyrgyzstan will face a significant rise in food prices in 2026
According to a study conducted by the Visual Capitalist portal, Kyrgyzstan will be among the countries with the highest level of food price growth in 2026. The data from the study is based on forecasts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

It is predicted that in 2026, Kyrgyzstan will face significant inflationary pressure, ranking 14th in the global rating of countries with the highest food price increases.

Financial Indicators for Kyrgyzstan and Neighboring Countries

It is expected that the level of food inflation in Kyrgyzstan in 2026 will reach 9.4 percent, significantly exceeding the global average of 3.2 percent.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan's neighbor, ranks 9th in the global rating with a forecasted price increase of 12.7 percent. In the Europe and Central Asia region, the average inflation is expected to be around 4.2 percent, making Kyrgyzstan's figures among the highest in the macro-region.

Global Context of Inflation

Among the countries with critically high levels of price growth are:

At the same time, in the USA, prices will rise by only 2.7 percent, and in Canada — by 4.3 percent. The lowest figures are expected in the Asia-Pacific region, where inflation will be around 1 percent.

Factors and Risks of Price Increases

According to FAO specialists, the rise in prices in developing countries is influenced by currency fluctuations, high dependence on imports, and disruptions in logistics chains. The increase in food inflation creates additional pressure on family budgets, as food expenses remain a primary burden for many citizens.

Despite the slowdown in global inflation compared to previous years, the situation in the 160 countries studied remains diverse. For millions of people in highly vulnerable countries like Kyrgyzstan, food security will remain at risk in 2026.

By the end of 2025, inflation in Kyrgyzstan reached 9.4 percent, exceeding the National Bank's target range set at 5-7 percent. As of the beginning of 2026, on February 16, inflation stood at 1.8 percent (year-on-year — 9.6 percent). The measures taken by the government have not yet yielded the desired results.
