A special commission has been formed in the Kyrgyz Republic, tasked with developing recommendations aimed at improving the provision of essential medicines to medical institutions. This information was announced at a working meeting held by the Minister of Health, Kanbek Dosmambetov, with participants from the private pharmaceutical sector.
The commission has been instructed to prepare specific proposals by December 31, 2025.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the need to eliminate the shortage of the most necessary and in-demand medications in the short term, which some patients are currently forced to purchase abroad.
The issue of the urgent need for practical actions to ensure the supply of missing medications was also raised.
“Given the growing demand for medicines from the list of essential drugs and the scale of our healthcare system, the importance of ensuring a constant supply requires a comprehensive approach and the unification of efforts. In this regard, the Ministry of Health plans to optimize the work of the State Enterprise 'Kyrgyzpharmacia', which includes additional funding and improvement of procurement mechanisms,” the Ministry of Health reports.
It was also noted that the current market structure, where up to 95% of medications are imported, is vulnerable. In this connection, the government intends to implement financial support instruments for local pharmaceutical companies, including credit programs through the State Development Bank, which will be aimed at localizing the production of medications.
