On December 29, Mongolia celebrates 114 years since gaining its independence and also marks the establishment of its modern diplomatic service.
“The British Embassy is pleased to congratulate the people of Mongolia on the 114th anniversary of the restoration of independence,” said Ambassador Fiona Blight.
This date, December 29, 1911, became a historic moment when the Mongolian people proclaimed a revolution that ended 200 years of rule by the Manchu Qing dynasty.
At that time, the Mongolians appointed the VIII Bogd Khan as the supreme ruler of the country, granting him state symbols and creating a government with five ministries, thereby forming the independent Bogd Khanate of Mongolia.
The events of 1911, which marked the beginning of Mongolia's independence, represent a crucial chapter in the history of a people who must remember this event with pride.
The independence revolution became a symbol of the long-standing efforts of the Mongolian people to reclaim their state, initiating the revival of national consciousness and laying the foundations for the future People's Revolution.
Although this day was not celebrated during the years of socialism, a law passed on August 16, 2007, established December 29 as a national holiday, and later, on December 23, 2011, it was officially recognized as the celebration of the Day of Restoration of National Freedom and Independence.
