Today, December 29, Mongolia solemnly celebrates the 114th anniversary of its liberation and restoration of national independence, as well as 114 years since the establishment of its modern diplomatic service.

The historic date of December 29, 1911, marked Mongolia's return to the political map of the world. It was on this day that the country freed itself from Manchu rule and gained sovereignty.

This event occurred against the backdrop of a crisis in the Qing Empire and the influence of revolutionary processes in Russia. On that day, Bogd Khan VIII became the khan, symbolizing the end of Manchu dominance and the beginning of a new era for Mongolia. Historians interpret the time when Mongolia was under Manchu control in various ways.

- Mongolia was under Manchu rule for more than two centuries. This history has many interpretations in academic circles. Some describe it as a Manchu colony, while others see it as a country oppressed by the Manchus. However, in recent years, research has begun to view this period as "Mongolia during Manchu rule." It can be confidently stated that it was not a Manchu colony. Studies show that it was a vassal or "vassal-like" state. The Manchus captured Mongolia and subjugated its people, but there were no mass killings. Mongols continued to govern their lands according to traditional laws and customs. At the same time, political power was in the hands of the Manchu khan, while local rulers controlled the lower levels of administration. Therefore, it is appropriate to speak of Manchu influence on Mongolia, notes Boldbaatar Chultem, a professor at the Faculty of History of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.
