Kazakhstan became a member of the Council of Peace, established at the initiative of Donald Trump, without the need to make a monetary contribution. This was reported by the state agency Kazinform, citing the press service of Akorda.
As noted by the press service, joining the Council requires solely the decision of a sovereign state. From the moment of accession, the term of participation in the council is three years. The mentioned contribution of 1 billion dollars in the charter is not mandatory for membership, but is considered a right of each participant.
If the contribution of 1 billion dollars is made within the first year, the state will be able to extend its participation in the council beyond the three-year term.
"Kazakhstan joined the Council of Peace without any financial obligations, which fully complies with the statutory provisions," Akorda added.
An important event took place on January 22 in Davos, where at the annual World Economic Forum, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the charter of the Council of Peace. Leaders from 18 countries also participated in this ceremony.
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. presidential administration is urging countries wishing to take a permanent seat in the Council to contribute at least 1 billion dollars.
