A significant trilateral negotiation has begun in Abu Dhabi, involving delegations from Russia, Ukraine, and the USA. Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian negotiation group, announced the start of the process.
“The trilateral negotiations have started, and now we will work in separate groups on various directions. After that, synchronization of positions is planned,” he added.
This information was confirmed by a source from the Russian state agency TASS.
“The negotiations have already begun, and various tracks and formats will be provided. The press will not be allowed,” the agency's interlocutor reported.
The Russian delegation is headed by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The USA is represented by special envoy of Donald Trump, Stephen Witkoff, and the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Ukraine is represented by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, and the head of the president's office, Kirill Budanov.
The first round of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia, and the USA took place in a closed format in Abu Dhabi on January 23-24. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking in Congress on January 28, noted that the only unresolved issue in the preparation of the peace plan remains territorial. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also emphasized that the issue of territories can only be discussed in a personal meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
