In the Besiktas district, three individuals in camouflage, armed with long-barreled weapons, carried out an attack on the Israeli diplomatic mission. At the time of the incident, the consulate was closed and not receiving visitors, so only duty police officers were present nearby. They engaged in a shootout with the attackers, resulting in one of the terrorists being killed and two others being injured. Preliminary information also indicates that two police officers were injured during the conflict.
Turkey's Minister of Justice, Akın Gürlek, confirmed the occurrence of the incident but did not disclose details, adding that investigators had already arrived at the scene, according to Haberturk. The investigation is being conducted by the Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül noted that no civilians or diplomats were harmed as a result of the shootout. He added that the Israeli consulate had not been operational for over two years.
Turkey's Minister of Interior, Mustafa Çiğitçi, reported that the identities of the attackers had been established. They arrived in Istanbul from Izmit in a rented car. One of them had connections to "an organization that uses religion for its purposes," while the other two were brothers, one of whom had previously been convicted for drug offenses.
