How a policeman saved a swan: the daily life of those who guard nature

— Thank you! I work as an inspector in the tourist ecological police. My path to this service is not accidental: I completed my studies in Bishkek in ecology and obtained a legal education. My father, who was also a policeman, served as an example for me. Thus, I continue family traditions. I am proud of my work, as I have dreamed of protecting nature and ensuring the safety of society since childhood. I believe that my dream has come true.

— What are the key tasks you face in the field of environmental protection?

— The main goal of our service is the protection of nature. We focus on the conservation of plants, animals, and birds, and we also conduct educational work among the population. In recent years, environmental initiatives supported by our president have been actively developing in Kyrgyzstan, aimed at creating and developing nature parks.

Working in the ecological police is diverse and sometimes unpredictable. We often have to rescue animals in distress. For example, I remember a case when we freed a swan that was stuck in the ice. It was completely frozen, but we managed to free it.

— What violations of environmental legislation do you encounter most frequently?

— Currently, the most common cases are poaching and illegal fishing. We also frequently record instances of illegal logging. We carry out ongoing preventive work to reduce the number of such violations.

— Are there any practical cases that particularly stood out to you?

— There are many such cases. One of the most memorable was an operation to prevent illegal hunting. Hunters usually plan their actions carefully, choosing the time and place for the emergence of animals such as argalis. We try to act in advance — we go to the area two or three days before the anticipated hunt to block possible paths and prevent violations. Our task is not only to detect crimes but also to prevent them.

— What motivates you to continue working in this challenging yet important field?

— We receive significant support from the state and President Sadyr Japarov. New equipment is being purchased, and public organizations focused on nature conservation are being established, which inspires us to work more effectively. The availability of modern equipment makes our work not only easier but also more interesting.

— What challenges do you face on your path?

— There are difficulties and joys in our profession. But I do not perceive this as challenges, as I chose this path myself and I enjoy it. We work on holidays and in any weather, when others are resting. This is what makes our work important and special.

— What wishes do you have for your colleagues on this professional holiday?

— I congratulate all my colleagues on Police Day! I wish you good health, family happiness, and a peaceful sky above your heads. May everyone who goes out to serve in the morning return home alive and healthy in the evening.
