The mayor of the capital Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, emphasized at a recent press conference that an integrated approach is required for effectively addressing the issue of traffic jams in the city.
He noted that it is not enough to solve just one specific problem while ignoring others. “Each district should align with the concept of '15-minute accessibility': we need to create conditions for pedestrian access to important facilities, even if people mostly travel by car. At the very least, everyone should have the opportunity to comfortably walk those 15 minutes,” the mayor added.
According to Junushaliev, Bishkek is critically lacking 45 educational institutions, including schools and kindergartens. “Building even one new school will help at least partially address the overcrowding issue. We also observe an increase in traffic density during international events, which highlights the vulnerability of our transport system and the need for a comprehensive approach to its improvement,” he concluded.
