At the parliament meeting, Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh Burun Amanova raised the issue of the increasing number of incidents involving electric scooters that are hitting pedestrians on sidewalks.

She noted that in some countries, the use of scooters is either completely banned or subject to strict regulations, and asked whether stricter rules for their operation are planned in Kyrgyzstan.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov responded that work is currently underway to regulate the movement of electric scooters and mopeds.

According to him, after the legislation is updated, the city administration will receive the authority to register scooters, which, in turn, will increase the interest of local authorities in creating specialized infrastructure. He also added that separate lanes for scooters are already planned in Bishkek.
