In Bishkek, the proposal to launch tram services, which is part of the city's new master plan, is actively being discussed. The city administration had previously raised the issue of the possibility of bringing back trams as one of the ways to improve public transport in the capital.

The team of journalists from 24.kg conducted a survey among local residents to find out what they think about this initiative.

Most survey participants responded positively to the return of trams. Residents believe that this mode of transport can reduce the load on the roads and partially solve the existing traffic congestion problems.

Some respondents also expressed the opinion that tram services would be convenient not only in Bishkek but also between neighboring settlements, suggesting, for example, to organize a route from Kara-Balta to Tokmok.
However, not all survey participants share this optimism. Some expressed concerns that improper organization of tram tracks could lead to new traffic jams, especially in the central areas of the city.
Nevertheless, many agree that with proper planning, trams could help reduce the number of cars on the roads and improve the transport situation in Bishkek.

According to the city administration, the master plan for the capital includes the construction of a new tram line along Tokombaev Avenue, which will start from the 12th microdistrict and move towards the city center, and then continue along Kyiv Street to the Osh market.
