As part of the discussion on the General Plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, Deputy Mayor Azamat Kadyrov presented information on possible tram lines and modern approaches to urban transport.
Kadyrov noted that the planners of the general plan propose to integrate new tram lines into the updated road scheme of the city. However, these lines will differ from traditional ones, as innovative technologies are expected instead of the classic contact network.
“We are considering the possibility of creating contactless tram lines. Technologies are rapidly evolving, and many still believe that trams must be connected to a contact line. Modern projects refute this opinion. Currently, trams that operate on cushions and various methods of energy supply are available, and we are actively studying foreign experience,” explained the deputy mayor. The project suggests that trams will move exclusively along key arterial streets, where separate dedicated lanes will be created. This will ensure high speed, safety, and predictability of movement.
Kadyrov also noted that modern technologies significantly change the concept of tram services.
“Although the name remains the same, the system itself is becoming modern. We are exploring all available technologies to make the project as comfortable and efficient as possible for the residents of the city.”Discussions on the general plan are ongoing, and the opinions of residents will be taken into account in the further development of the project.
