Storm Warning: Avalanches and Snowdrifts Expected on Mountain Roads in Kyrgyzstan

According to information from Kyrgyzhydromet under the Ministry of Emergency Situations, dangerous weather phenomena are expected in mountainous regions and on certain highways of the country from January 19 to 21. In particular, this concerns the Bishkek - Osh route, where avalanches may occur in sections 121–138 km (Tоо-Ashuu Pass) and 198–255 km (Ala-Bel Pass, Chychkan Gorge). The roads Ala-Buka - Kanysh-Kiya (68–74 km and 86–101 km, Chapchyma Pass), Krasnaya Gorka - Ak-Tash (0–3 km), Myrza-Ake - Kara-Kulja - Alaykuu (65–110 km), Karakol - Enilchek (45–90 km, Chon-Ashuu Pass), and Balikchy - Kazarman - Jalal-Abad (326–349 km, Kok-Art Pass) are also at risk.

In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends that drivers exercise caution. When traveling through areas where avalanches may occur, a distance of at least 500 meters between vehicles should be maintained.
