Kyrgyzstan Joined the Samarkand Declaration on the Protection of Wildlife

On November 23, 2025, in Samarkand, during the 20th Conference of the Parties to the CITES Convention, Kyrgyzstan officially joined the Samarkand Declaration and the Action Plan for 2026–2032. These documents aim to protect wild flora and fauna, as well as combat illegal trade in rare species of animals and plants. A.M. Musaev, the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, represented Kyrgyzstan at this important event, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The signing of the declaration was a joint initiative of five Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. This event symbolizes their collective determination to preserve biodiversity and strengthen interstate cooperation in wildlife conservation.

The next day, on November 24, A.M. Musaev spoke at a meeting with the international organization TRAFFIC, where he discussed Kyrgyzstan's achievements in implementing the CITES Convention. He noted the country's readiness for further cooperation, including the introduction of digital tools for monitoring and strengthening measures against illegal trade.

During the conference, the Deputy Minister held meetings with the heads of environmental protection agencies in Central Asia, the Secretary-General of CITES, and the Director-General of TRAFFIC. Participants discussed opportunities for improving regional cooperation, joint projects, and initiatives for nature conservation.

The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic emphasizes that joining the Samarkand Declaration opens new horizons for coordinating actions, exchanging information, and collaborating on the protection of rare species and sustainable management of natural resources in the region.
