As part of the agreement, the development of international scientific cooperation is envisaged, covering the study of mountain glaciers, snow cover, and permafrost, as well as the analysis of their impact on water resources in Central Asia under changing climate conditions.

According to the terms of the document, the status of the category 2 center will be valid for eight years. The agreement includes conducting scientific research and educational activities, coordinating regional projects in the fields of glaciology and water resource management, as well as establishing a Board of Governors, which will include representatives from the government of Kazakhstan, UNESCO, and countries in the region.

Additionally, the center will have the opportunity to implement joint scientific projects, organize workshops and training courses involving international specialists, as well as ensure the free exchange of scientific data and the implementation of modern technologies for monitoring and preserving glaciers.

This agreement has previously been ratified by the Mazhilis.

Note:

Category 2 centers operating under the auspices of UNESCO are not part of the organization itself and do not receive funding directly from its budget. They are established and supported by the resources of the host country, but operate in accordance with UNESCO's programs and priorities, contributing to the achievement of its goals at both regional and international levels.
