
According to Reuters, citing the fire department, more than 3,600 residents of the cities of Juiz de Fora and Ubá have been forced to evacuate their homes.
The administration of Juiz de Fora is strongly urging local residents to leave flood-prone areas and relocate to specially prepared temporary shelters. In response to the situation, the federal government of Brazil has expedited aid, sending medical personnel and national defense specialists to the region.
As of February 25, Brazilian authorities reported 30 fatalities and 440 evacuees. The rainy season in the country, which lasts from December to March, is typically accompanied by frequent downpours, floods, and landslides. However, in February 2026, rainfall levels in the southern and eastern states exceeded normal levels. For the city of Juiz de Fora, this month has been the rainiest in its entire history.
