In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, the results of a significant study dedicated to the treatment and awareness levels of patients with arterial hypertension and type 2 diabetes were presented. The data was provided by the press service of the Ministry of Health.

The results revealed serious issues with the regularity of medication intake, doctor visits, and health monitoring, which require a comprehensive approach from the healthcare system.

The study involved 1,996 people with hypertension and 1,101 patients with type 2 diabetes. It turned out that only 43% of people with diabetes and 38% with hypertension regularly take their prescribed medications. Many of them miss medical check-ups, rarely undergo tests, and change their treatment regimens on their own.

The level of patient awareness also leaves much to be desired. Among people with type 2 diabetes, 76% know their blood sugar level, but only 23% are aware of their glycated hemoglobin level. At the same time, 79% have elevated levels, indicating insufficient disease control. As for patients with hypertension, 77% of them measure their blood pressure, but 44% still have high readings. More than 90% do not know their cholesterol level, a key risk factor for complications.

A round table and strategic meeting were organized by the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan in collaboration with the National Center for Cardiology and Therapy named after M. Mirrahimov and the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy named after I. K. Akhunbaev, with the support of a Swiss project for the prevention of non-communicable diseases.

During the meeting, special attention was given to the presentation of the state program for the prevention and control of arterial hypertension for 2026–2030. The main goal of the program is to create an accessible and effective system for the early detection and control of this disease.

The participants of the round table approved the national initiative "Check Your Blood Pressure - Save Your Heart," which aims to unite all stakeholders and mobilize resources to reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases.
