The senior officer of the fire extinguishing and prevention department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Aibek Kanimetov, noted on the air of "Birinchi Radio" that the use of fireworks and firecrackers has no roots in the traditions of the Kyrgyz people. "These light and sound shows should not be held in Kyrgyzstan," he emphasized.

Kanimetov recalled that during Soviet times, celebrations often took place in the main square, but people preferred to celebrate events with their families at home.

“The tradition of launching fireworks mainly came to us from the East. As a secular state, we do not consider this something forbidden; however, many believe that such practices do not align with Islamic traditions and are more associated with Eastern religions that seek to expel spirits. I doubt that launching a few fireworks can guarantee luck for the whole year, and in my opinion, we can do without them,” he added.

Kanimetov also expressed concern about the impact of pyrotechnics on public safety. “If citizens reduce the use of pyrotechnic products by at least 30-40%, it will lead to a decrease in the number of fires and injuries,” he said. He also noted that many people ignore safety rules, which can lead to injuries, especially among children who do not always pay attention to instructions. Moreover, the use of firecrackers and fireworks indoors can cause fires, and light and sound pollution negatively affects pets,” he pointed out.

Earlier, the Ministry of Natural Resources called on state and local authorities to refrain from New Year's fireworks, citing their negative impact on air quality, increased volumes of solid household waste, and heightened risks of fire outbreaks.
