The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan has refuted recent statements by a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh regarding the lack of notification to citizens of Kazakhstan about the introduction of new rules for staying in the country.
The agency reported that efforts to inform were carried out prior to the new rules coming into effect. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Border Service of the GKNB, and the Ministry of Digital Development actively disseminated information through official internet resources, social networks, and other mass media.
Information about the new rules for staying was officially published starting in the spring and summer of 2025 and continues to be updated to this day.
As part of the explanatory work, a briefing for media representatives was held on December 4, 2025, at the "Ak-Zhol-automobile" checkpoint, attended by employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Department of Population Registration. Press releases on this topic were also sent to the media in Kazakhstan.
The work of informing citizens is carried out on an ongoing basis. On January 13, 2026, information about the current rules for the stay of citizens of Kazakhstan was presented on the air of "Birinchi Radio".
Informational materials are placed at all checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border. Videos are broadcast in passport control halls, and Border Service employees individually inform citizens of Kazakhstan about the duration and conditions of their stay.
The agency also emphasized that individuals traveling abroad bear full responsibility for complying with the migration legislation of the country they are heading to.
The Border Service also noted that the measures taken are not unilateral and operate on a parity basis concerning the restrictions imposed in the Republic of Kazakhstan since September 1 for citizens of Kyrgyzstan. These measures are aimed at ensuring the principle of reciprocity and are in line with international practice.
