The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic reports on the implementation of a number of promising scientific projects aimed at modernizing the domestic agricultural sector. Currently, the focus is on updating varieties and adapting them to changing climatic conditions in various regions.
One of the most significant initiatives has been the testing of citrus fruits in the Batken region. Seedlings delivered from Turkey are undergoing acclimatization to local conditions. The success of this program could lay the foundation for future production of exotic fruits in the country. At the same time, in the At-Bashinsky district, the issue of drought resistance is being addressed: plantations of gooseberries and currants have been planted over an area of 100 hectares, as these crops can yield stable harvests even in conditions of water scarcity.
Significant attention is also being paid to cereal crops. In the Naryn region, trials of the winter wheat variety "Steklovidnaya-24" of the first reproduction have begun. This new variety was selected to achieve high quality indicators in the harsh conditions of high-altitude areas. This work is being carried out within the framework of international cooperation with Russian scientific institutions. Joint research not only facilitates the testing of new varieties but also the introduction of advanced technologies in agriculture, which allows for significant progress.
The ministry emphasizes that these scientific initiatives play a key role in ensuring the country's food security. The introduction of modern, resilient, and high-yield varieties will help farmers reduce risks associated with climate change and significantly increase the profitability of their farms.
