On October 23, in Beijing, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to China, Aktilek Musaeva, held a briefing dedicated to the key priorities of the country's chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization for 2025-2026. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, more than 25 ambassadors and high-profile diplomats participated in the event, as well as the Secretary-General of the SCO, Nurlan Ermekbaev, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the media, and other guests.
Nurlan Ermekbaev opened the meeting with a welcoming speech, confirming the readiness of the SCO Secretariat to support the Kyrgyz side during its chairmanship.
During her report, Aktilek Musaeva spoke about the key areas of Kyrgyzstan's work within the SCO, including planned meetings and events for the coming years.
She noted that President Sadyr Japarov outlined the slogan of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship during the SCO summit: "25 Years of the SCO: Together for Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity." The ambassador elaborated on plans for cooperation in the areas of security, economic growth, digitalization, ecology, and cultural exchanges.
Musaeva also emphasized the promotion of Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for Non-Permanent Membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028, stressing that this is not just a diplomatic goal, but a manifestation of the country's desire to contribute to strengthening international peace and security.
Additionally, she announced the holding of the sixth World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan in 2026.
Speaking about climate change, Aktilek Musaeva mentioned that in 2022, Kyrgyzstan initiated the adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly on the "Decade of Action for Sustainable Mountain Development," the concluding phase of which will be the Second Global Mountain Summit "Bishkek+25" in 2027. She invited all of Kyrgyzstan's partners to actively participate in this significant event.
It was also noted at the briefing that October 23 is the "International Snow Leopard Day."
