Kasymaiev emphasized that the quality of the General Plan is crucial for the sustainable development of the capital, the comfort and safety of its residents, as well as the efficient use of resources and the investment attractiveness of Bishkek. He added that it is important to preserve green spaces and historical-cultural heritage while ensuring environmental safety.
During the discussion, it was also noted that after the administrative-territorial reform of 2024, the area of the city increased by 25,707.3 hectares, totaling 41,032.67 hectares. The population has grown by 132,380 people, reaching approximately 1.3 million, although actual figures may be higher due to active urbanization. Meeting participants emphasized that Bishkek is facing serious issues such as congestion in the transport network, a lack of green and recreational areas, significant infrastructure wear and tear, and instances of unregulated construction, which negatively affect the quality of life for residents.
Bishkek Mayor Aibek Junushaliev reported that the General Plan project was presented for public discussion in October 2025. During this time, more than 300 comments and suggestions were received, which will be carefully analyzed and taken into account in the revision of the document.
Experts from the Research Institute of Prospective Urban Development in St. Petersburg, who developed the project, presented a report containing an analysis of the current state of the city, demographic trends, and key development directions up to 2050, covering issues related to transport, social, and engineering infrastructure.
As a result of the meeting, it was confirmed that work on the General Plan project should continue, taking into account public and expert suggestions, with an emphasis on its phased and balanced implementation.
