According to the minister, the reason for the decrease in electricity generation at hydropower plants was the reduction in water inflow. He stated that against this backdrop, only 140 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated from small and micro hydropower plants with a capacity of 1 to 5 megawatts, which is a negligible figure. He added that while the development of hydropower will continue, the significance of alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind energy, is increasing due to dependence on water resources.

Mirzamakhmudov also reported on plans to build stations for water energy storage. He noted that the creation of large hydropower plants takes between 6 to 10 years, and in the short term, green energy is considered the most economically viable option for ensuring stable energy supply.
