Kanat Sagynbaev, the Minister of Labor, Social Protection, and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, held a meeting with a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, led by Kojiro Nakai.
During the conversation, the minister expressed gratitude to the WFP representatives for their ongoing cooperation and support in implementing social initiatives.
He noted that the World Food Programme is an important partner and donor. Since the beginning of their cooperation, the WFP has assisted thousands of citizens of Kyrgyzstan by providing over 60,000 tons of food and delivering aid amounting to more than 166 million US dollars.
Sagynbaev also reminded about the implementation of projects under the memorandums and strategic plans that are being carried out from 2014 to 2027 for a total amount of 166.2 million US dollars, including infrastructure and educational initiatives.
“We have successfully implemented the 'food for work' program together with the WFP. Over 11 years, more than 7,500 projects have been completed, providing temporary employment for 50,000 people, and tens of thousands of families have been able to acquire new professions,” the minister added.
He also emphasized the importance of the WFP's work in emergency situations, such as floods and conflicts, when the program provides timely humanitarian assistance to those affected.
During the meeting, future areas of cooperation in employment, small business development, food security, and digital solutions were discussed. “We are ready to plan new projects that will serve the interests of citizens and bring long-term benefits,” the minister noted.
In conclusion, the parties expressed hope that the cooperation between the Ministry of Labor and the World Food Programme of the United Nations will continue to contribute to improving social protection and the quality of life of the population of the Kyrgyz Republic.
