On the air of "Birinchi Radio," Irina Martynenko, a dermatologist-venereologist at the Republican Center for Dermatovenereology, warned young people about the risks of self-treatment for acne.

Previously, she highlighted the factors that contribute to the development of this condition.

According to the specialist, many teenagers turn to the internet for advice, but without the proper education, it is difficult to distinguish useful recommendations from unreliable ones. Martynenko noted that there are many myths that lead young people to use aggressive products, such as toothpaste, in hopes of a "miraculous" cure for acne.

She emphasized that patients often postpone visiting a dermatologist for a long time—ranging from one to three years—hoping that the problem will resolve itself. They often rely on the experiences of relatives or the advice of acquaintances, which ultimately leads to a worsening of the situation. "Some turn to cosmetologists, as it may seem more comfortable than visiting a dermatologist. I am not against cosmetology, but it should be used at the right time and under the right conditions, for example, to correct skin defects during remission. It is important to see a doctor first, rather than coming in with advanced cases after unsuccessful attempts at self-treatment," the doctor added.

Martynenko also emphasized the need for an individualized approach to the treatment of skin diseases and warned against attempts to pop pimples, which can only exacerbate the inflammatory process.
