On January 21, the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan approved resolution No. 17 concerning the designation of the state body responsible for the safe storage and disposal of outdated pesticides and toxic waste.

The purpose of adopting this document is to protect the health of citizens and the ecosystem from the negative impact of persistent organic pollutants, as well as to enhance the effectiveness of hazardous waste management and comply with the requirements of the Stockholm Convention.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision has been appointed as responsible for these issues, which will handle the safe storage and disposal of outdated pesticides and other harmful chemicals, such as mercury and lead.

The Ministry is also tasked with attracting investments from international donors for the effective disposal of outdated pesticides and the reclamation of contaminated areas.

The implementation of the resolution will be carried out within the approved staffing levels of the Ministry of Natural Resources, using funds from the republican budget and other legal sources of financing.
