Starting from September 2026, educational institutions will begin teaching six specialized subjects related to car driving. The Chief of Staff of the President of Kyrgyzstan, Kanbek Tumanbaev, announced that the number of hours dedicated to this topic will increase from 40 to 380. This statement was made during the presentation of a new service for replacing driver's licenses, organized at the State Center for Vehicle Registration and Driver Licensing.
Kanbek Tumanbaev also noted that from January 2026, private driving schools in the republic will be eliminated, leaving only state institutions.
“Seven driving schools have applied for licenses, and I have ordered the issuance of licenses. All existing schools will operate exclusively within the public sector starting in 2026. If they want to continue their activities, they need to cooperate with the state,”

The official also added that the training program for obtaining a driver's license will undergo significant changes, which are currently being finalized. The authorities intend to present the new program by the end of November.
At the beginning of 2025, the country recorded 9,587 road traffic accidents, resulting in approximately 800 fatalities. Kyrgyzstan ranks high in the number of fatal accidents compared to neighboring countries.
“Some may not like our changes, but in three years they will understand that it was necessary. Look at the situation on the roads: the driving culture leaves much to be desired,” concluded Kanbek Tumanbaev.
