The new general plan for Bishkek discussed in the Cabinet of the Kyrgyz Republic

Since October, more than 300 comments and suggestions have been recorded on the project

The new general plan for Bishkek, which is set to be in effect until 2050, was discussed at a meeting in the country's government. This information was provided by the office of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Adylbek Kasymaliev, who emphasized the importance of the document for the long-term socio-economic and territorial development of the capital.

Kasymaliev stated: “The quality and balance of the General Plan determine the sustainable development of the city, the comfort and safety of its residents, as well as the effective use of resources and attractiveness for investors, while it is necessary to preserve green areas and historical-cultural heritage, ensuring environmental safety.”

An important factor is the new administrative-territorial reform, which will come into effect in 2024, increasing the area of the capital by 25,707.3 hectares, thus the total territory of Bishkek will be 41,032.67 hectares. Additionally, the city's population has increased by 132,380 people, reaching approximately 1.3 million, although actual figures may be higher due to active urbanization.

The capital faces numerous systemic problems, such as overloaded transport networks, a lack of green and recreational spaces, significant wear and tear of communal infrastructure, and cases of chaotic construction, which negatively affect the quality of the urban environment and the living standards of its residents.

Mayor Aibek Junushaliev reported that since the beginning of the public discussion of the general plan in October of this year, more than 300 comments and suggestions have been received, which will be taken into account in the further editing of the document.

Representatives of the Research Institute of Prospective Urban Development from St. Petersburg, who developed the general plan project, presented an analysis of the current state of the city, demographic trends, and the main directions of its development until 2050, including aspects of transport, social, and engineering infrastructure.
