The General Plan for the development of Bishkek, which is to be implemented by 2050, includes a significant expansion of green areas. In particular, the area of parks, squares, and boulevards will increase by 2,950 hectares, allowing the total area of green spaces to reach 3,400 hectares. This is necessary to meet regulatory requirements for the provision of green zones for the population.

This information was provided by Aziret Akimov, the first deputy head of the Bishkek Main Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, in an interview with the Kabar agency.

According to Akimov, during the analysis of construction data, indicators of the regulatory standard for the provision of green areas for each resident of Bishkek were identified.

“Sixteen square meters of green zones are allocated per person, however, the current actual figure is about 4.5 square meters,” he noted, adding that the current data is three times lower than the regulatory standard.

By 2050, it is planned that the area of public green spaces will grow to 3,400 hectares. Currently, this area is 450 hectares, and an additional 2,950 hectares will be created through new parks, squares, gardens, and boulevards, as well as by establishing an urban forest park on the heights of Boz Boltok.

Akimov also mentioned that all existing parks and green zones, including the Karagacheva Grove, botanical gardens, Dair Asanov Park, Atatürk Park, and Youth Park, will be classified as specially protected natural areas.

As for private areas that may be classified as green spaces, such cases exist, but they mainly concern zones along rivers and canals.

These areas have protective zones, where many cases of unauthorized construction are currently observed. They will be designated for public green spaces,” he added.
