On December 25, 2025, public hearings dedicated to the General Plan project for the capital until 2050 concluded in Bishkek. This was reported by the city administration.

Alexander Baranov, head of the "Transport Infrastructure" department at LLC "NIIPG", presented the current state of the transport network.

He noted that 40% of the capital's main street and road network does not meet regulatory requirements, 85% of them are overloaded, and 77% of the allocated spaces for the main street network are occupied by vehicles, which doubles the load on the roads.

In 2024, the level of motorization in Bishkek reached 330 vehicles per 1000 residents, which is a high figure.

Additionally, there is a serious problem with public transport: it suffers from overcrowding, low speed of movement, and lack of service in some areas.

The new project plans improvements in the transport infrastructure, including bringing the parameters of 333 km of the main street and road network up to standards, constructing 299 km of new highways, 89 km of a bypass road around the capital (including 49 km of new construction), 18 interchanges, and 2 overpasses over railway tracks.

The project also includes the construction of a tram line and the implementation of a rapid bus transit system. However, Baranov emphasized that creating a metro system is not feasible due to high costs, which are ten times greater than the cost of a tram network.

It is planned to increase the volume of public transport by 54%, ensure 100% of the population has access to public transport, and achieve a 60% share of the population served by public transport.

To comfortably transport 220 passengers, it will require: 1 modern tram, 2 large buses, or 3 buses, which will allow for the replacement of 180 personal vehicles.
