
The maximum prison sentence will be 3 years
In Kyrgyzstan, parents who evade alimony payments may face imprisonment. This statement was made by Deputy Attorney General Umutkan Konkubaeva at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.
The Prosecutor's Office presented a draft amendment to the current legislation to the deputies. In case of failure to fulfill alimony obligations or court decisions regarding alimony, the following measures are proposed:
- in case of arrears for three months — arrest for a period of three days;
- for repeated violations within a year — arrest for a period of seven days;
- for non-payment for 12 months — community service from 100 to 200 hours or imprisonment for up to one year;
- for concealing or underreporting income, as well as for evading employment as per court decision, a fine of 100,000 soms or imprisonment for up to three years is provided.
The bill was approved in the first reading by the parliamentary committee following the discussion.
